the local authorities to provide the perfect venue for the traditional
Spanish "paseo", the popular past time of promenading
with no particular destination in mind!
Fuengirola is a tourist's paradise and one of the most cosmopolitan
towns on the Coast. Fuengirola offers all the facilities of a major
tourist centre, restaurants, bars, discotheques, sports clubs, etc.
Broad beaches flank the city east and west with newly built 'chiringuitos'
- simple beach side restaurants - offer typical dishes such as cold
vegetable soup, skewered sardines, small fish, etc. Apart from the
general attractions of a tourist centre, Fuengirola offers a number
of interesting venues such as the Roman baths at Torreblanca, the
Arab castle of Suhayl, the Outdoor Museum exhibiting paintings by
a variety of artists, the Yacht Harbour, Yacht Club, fantastic golf
courses, and a large shopping centre.

Tourism and the expatriate resident population have made their mark
on Mijas which has a distinctly cosmopolitan flavour with international
restaurants, clubs and bars. Yet the municipality has managed to
retain its old world charm and has a reputation as a holiday spot
for the more discerning tourist. You won't find any major boulevards
and main thoroughfares here - Mijas is a delightful maze of narrow
cobbled streets and archways with picture postcard houses, red tiled
roofs and balconies ablaze with brightly coloured geraniums.
A white village of character and charm, Mijas village sits above
the Mediterranean looking out across Fuengirola to the Mountains
of North Africa and the entrance to the Mediterranean. 5 miles from
the busy beach scene of the coast, it retains it's air of tranquility
and a glimpse of the old ways of Spanish life. Only 25 minutes from
Malaga or Marbella, 2 hours from Seville, Granada and Cordoba and

architecture, romance and interest. For the less adventurous or
